Legends are short, orally transmitted narratives that claim to be true. They are often linked to specific named places and people. The legends do not have a specific form, and can be told in very different ways. Some legends are so-called migratory legends, and can be found in variants all over Northern Europe. These are catalogued in a separate catalogue of migratory legends.
